I underwent an operation for an iguinal hernia nearly a month ago. Dr White and his team were fantastic and I would not hesitate to recommend their care to anyone considering such a procedure. From the outset Dr White manifested a caring yet professional manner which instilled confidence in the planned operation. Everything went ahead just as planned with Dr Whites colleague and attendant nurses being friendly and helpful throughout. With minimal discomfort and no signs of infection whatsoever I have made a rapid recovery and am feeling like getting back into proper work once again. Well done all!

I travelled to Keswick Hospital, quite nervous, on my own, where Dr White received me and removed a small lesion from the bridge of my nose, with great ease, speed and efficiency. The whole experience was top quality and far better than previous treatment I had received in Newcastle, under the plastic surgeons. This is because: it was closer to home and I felt I had more personal attention. The resulting scar is minimal (and better than the scars I had experienced with the plastic surgeons)- I am very happy! Thankyou.

Dr Martin White is an exceptional man at the very top of his game. I could never have imagined surgery under local anaesthetic. It was a revelation to me that I remained calm throughout the procedure. Entirely due to the confidence and competence of a team inspired by greatness. Our NHS has much to be enormously proud of and we must never loose sight of this basic fact.

My husband had a hernia repair today. Everything went smoothly (it couldn't have been better if he was a private patient) and even I was given a cup of tea. All instructions were given verbally and in writing and Dr White is to telephone tomorrow to see how his patient is getting on. I think that is fantastic. My only adverse comment is the lack of advice on the best place to park. There was plenty of free parking, but all bays were numbered and so we wondered if they were for staff. A note on the patient instructions re. parking would have been helpful. Amanda, the nursing assistant, was very friendly and put my husband at ease. She explained post op. information very well.

Overall it was an excellent experience and I can firmly recommend it as a fast and efficient alternative to the more traditional acute hospital pathway. The service, from start to finish, was warm and supportive and I felt it was both safe and responsive to my needs. The care given during the procedure was of the highest standard with all the procedures being explained and any questions I had dealt with in a friendly and effective manner

Profile

Dr White is the clinical lead for CMS community surgery.
Since qualification from Dundee in 1999 he pursued surgery as his chosen career. After completing his MRCS and research he decided to change tack to General Practice always knowing he wanted to develop community surgery

Gradually over a 4 year period he has increased the portfolio of surgical procedures from vasectomies to minor hand surgery including carpal tunnel decompressions to abdominal wall hernia repair under local anaesthesia.

His interest in dermatological surgery continues to grow and he now offers a full range of skin procedures from simple excisions through to facial flaps and skin grafts all under local anaesthesia
